With over 160 vineyards in the Franschhoek valley, you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out in the Cape Winelands.
We collected our car from the airport and headed straight to one of our favourite restaurants, The Kitchen at Maison Wine Estate. It’s just one hour’s drive from Cape Town Intl taking the N1 and then the R45 into Franschhoek.
We were definitely the early birds and despite the cooler temperatures that day, we opted to sit on their veranda with jumpers and blankets a plenty! With a glass of fizz in hand, our waiter, Mark, took us through the seasonal menu that focused on smaller plates with a suggested order of 3-4 for two people. We opted for the duck breast ham, suckling pig, mussels and the kreef tail.
The service was impeccable and Mark was highly knowledgeable on the suggested wines to accompany our feast. One thing I haven’t yet mentioned is the stunning interior.
The light fittings in the wine tasting room are definitely worth a snoop. We’ll all be tying our empties to lamp shades before we know it!
I’ve been to Maison twice now, the last stop was during the summer where we spent hours in the sunshine with friends while sippin’ Viognier. Maison, you never disappoint!
