After spotting these guys on Instagram, I’ve been looking for an excuse to dine here for a good few months now. Well, that time arrived when a cure for holiday blues was only to be remedied by the Asian-inspired palm tree paradise of Little Bird on Battersea Rise.
This is the second Little Bird opening for founder Lorraine Angliss who grew up watching her mother cook in their family run cafe on Hayling Island. The decor has you screaming “HOUSE GOALS” with an emphasis on leafy prints, bright tropical shades of blue and ornate mirror frames.
The menu offers Asian-inspired tapas dishes all made from locally sourced ingredients with an impressive cocktail list to boot. You can pick a selection of dishes, large or small. We wanted to share a few smaller plates and were told 2-3 per person was ideal.
The cocktails have all the usual suspects listed amongst a few bespoke options to tickle your tastebuds with an array of botanicals, spices and tropical flavours.
I’m a girl who would add chilli to her cornflakes if it were a socially acceptable thing to do so it was much to my delight to see these red fiery friends on pretty much EVERYTHING! First up, it’s a fridge favourite in any girlfriends house, the hummus and grilled pitta alongside a generous serving of edamame and a small plate of salt and pepper squid with sweet chilli sauce.
We followed this with tender baby back pork ribs (the meat fell off the bone), tandoori monkfish taco with minted yoghurt (my favourite, a real taste explosion!) and the chicken san choi bau with lettuce wraps and toasted peanuts.
We really enjoyed our time at Little Bird. The staff were relaxed and welcoming and the Asian-inspired food was perfectly presented, ideal in size and tasted insanely good. Make sure you stop by here one day soon, it’s great for a date or to have some fun with your friends. Book a table though, unsurprisingly, it’s very popular!
