La Siesta, Javea

In a beautiful Spanish town where the ocean meets the sky, you will find La Siesta in Javea.

A vision in white and blue, the all-day beach club has the magical ingredients to keep you suitably relaxed throughout the sweltering heat of high season.

Desperately in need of some sunshine, we decided to take up my Dad and Ann’s kind offer of staying at their apartment in the coastal town of Javea, just one hours drive north from Alicante airport.

The charming town is tucked away between rocky headlands on the Costa Blanca. It’s a classic case of the old colliding with the new as the historic part of the “Old Town” district meets the modern flurry of restaurants along the sandy Arenal beach.

Conveniently situated between the two, La Siesta has all of your holiday desires covered. Whether that be a rosé-fuelled lunch that stretches into late afternoon or a lazy day basking in the sunshine. The views are really what makes this place – look at that sea!

On the opposite side to the bar there are several sun loungers and day beds (no charge during the month of September) with friendly waiters providing bedside service all day.

Be quick though, this place fills up fast!

We came here on a few occasions and always managed to score a double day bed along the front which provides incredible views of the surrounding bay. The public beach towards the port is covered in pebbles (pretty standard for most European beaches) so you’ll be glad to hear La Siesta is covered in sand.

Offering a wide selection of refreshments, we successfully worked our way through their drinks menu (all food and drink listed in this post were not consumed in one day, I promise!)

On arrival, we ordered a couple of crisp cold Cervezas – when in Spain, hey!

We later had a jug of the cava sangria (also great with rosé), if you haven’t sipped on this before, you must! It’s the perfect refresher after a hard day of sunbathing. La Siesta could be a contender for my previous post, Top Five Cocktail Bars With A View.

Now, into what matters! When it comes to food, you’re spoilt for choice. One of the huge plus points to dining by the sea is the fresh produce, especially fish. On our first trip to La Siesta, I wasted no time in ordering a plate of sushi and a starter portion of sea bass ceviche with avocado, apple and raspberry.

Monday’s food was a nice mix of grilled calamari and a chicken club sandwich.

The Côtes de Provence rosé (I’m a sucker for the pale stuff!) pretty much flowed all holiday… sip sip hooray! The local wines are incredibly cheap here and also well worth a try.

Aside from the great food and wine on offer at La Siesta, I really fell in love with the bohemian design aesthetics. The makeshift beach lies underneath wicker lamp shades and oversized straw umbrellas and the all-day house beats and open plan venue has you easily transported to Las Salinas Beach in Ibiza.

Wondering about a dress code? I raise my hand in favour of the kaftan, I packed sox of them and don’t really plan to wear much else! Talking of style, the boutique shop at La Siesta has some beautiful clothes and jewellery on sale. Think Sienna Miller early noughties era – fringed skirts, faux fur gilets and boho jewellery.

If you’re in the area, go and say hola. I know I’ll be back very soon.
