Grazing at Vall de Cavall, Javea

In search of a romantic spot away from the bustling crowds of Javea, I stumbled across Vall de Cavall in the valley of La Marina Alta.

A traditional and rural restaurant at heart, you will find it set upon a plush equestrian ranch surrounded by rolling hilltops and stunning views of the majestic Montgo. Pictures really don’t do this place justice, just wait until you see the food!

After a hasty drive to catch the sunset (which almost didn’t happen as the turning to Vall de Cavall is so well hidden) we were greeted by a couple of the rather furry stable residents as they trotted past the restaurant.

My favourite was this little cute ball of fluff who was sporting a Trump-worthy hairdo. Poor chap!

Since 2008, Vall de Cavall has been serving the best in international food and wine. It’s a place to go for a special occasion as the menu is slightly dearer than what you’d find in Javea {my last post was about La Siesta beach bar. Find it here} but well worth it for the culinary experience.

This was my favourite dress of the summer and it was such a steal! It’s from H&M who clearly had the D&G lemon print cotton dress in mind but at a fraction of the price, who’s complaining?!

Enough of the surroundings, I could go on all evening! Let’s tuck into some food. The menu at Vall de Cavall offers a wide range of freshly prepared dishes with a Mediterranean influence all carefully thought out in terms of presentation, flavours and seasonal produce.

For starters, we ordered ravioli parcels with parmesan and truffle butter sauce and the scallops with pear cream, ginger and crispy ham.

The ravioli was a real highlight, the flavours worked so well together. After the plates were cleared, a quick palate cleanser before the main act!

This was a toughie with so many great dishes on offer but we landed on the chateaubriand steak (to share) cooked on a hot stone. This was quite a show in itself with the steak prepared and cooked right in front of you. Our lovely waiter carefully sliced the meat and dusted the hot stone with rock salt. From there on, you take the reigns and start sizzlin’ the meat. We’re both fans of medium-rare (more red than pink) and the meat practically dissolved in your mouth, one of the best we’ve had in a long while.

This came with side portions of grilled vegetables and frites and a choice between peppercorn or béarnaise sauce (plus a large glass of Spanish Rioja to really accentuate the flavour!)

We really enjoyed our evening at Vall de Cavall and will no doubt go back in the future, the sunset was magical (not seen along the seafront of Javea unfortunately) and the food was well worth the extra pennies. A special mention to the staff who were full of smiles and helpful tips when it came to the menu – thank you for taking good care of us! A rare find!
