One of my favourite spots in South Africa!

La Petite Ferme in Franschhoek (just one hour’s drive from Cape Town) has been running for many years now and these guys have hospitality down to a tee. We first visited over a year ago and took one of their Manor House suites for a few nights. We were hooked! This time round, we were celebrating our status as newlyweds and without hesitation booked ourselves into one of their vineyard suites with it’s own private plunge pool.

THE KITCHEN AT MAISON

With over 160 vineyards in the Franschhoek valley, you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out in the Cape Winelands.

We collected our car from the airport and headed straight to one of our favourite restaurants, The Kitchen at Maison Wine Estate. It’s just one hour’s drive from Cape Town Intl taking the N1 and then the R45 into Franschhoek.

BABEL AT BABYLONSTOREN

Housed in an old cow shed with a farm-to-fork philosophy, Babel at Babylonstoren offers plenty of wonderful menu options which is entirely driven by the season and local produce growing on the farm. Their winter menu (South Africa is just starting to show the early signs of Spring) had a range of coloured salads with matching proteins and delicious mains including seasame-glazed baby chicken and a risotto with homegrown grains and cultivated mushrooms.

POPPING QUESTIONS AT TINTSWALO, CAPE TOWN

As the first post in my bride-to-be series, I thought it would be fitting to give some details of how we took the major leap from carefree dating to the rather nerve-wracking step into marriage.

We were in South Africa for a friend’s wedding and as an early birthday present to me from my boyfriend, we checked into the exclusive Atlantic Tintswalo for some much needed pampering, bubbles and a sunset dinner overlooking the beautiful curve of Hout Bay.
